ONE MASK, ONE STORY

30-03-2026
I would like to share with you, more regularly, the stories behind the masks. Through a selected piece, I will tell you its origin — the story of its creation, of the artisan who shaped it, and of the craftsmanship behind it. An invitation to step more deeply into their world. These masks are unique pieces, entirely handmade, where gesture, energy, and vision come together. They are presences. To begin this series, I have chosen a large monkey mask, created by the shaman Servelina.

Mask, Servelina (shaman)
Unique piece

This mask was created in the context of mourning.
A year earlier, Servelina’s husband died violently.
When I met her, she simply said:
“I weave to ease my pain.”

From this gesture emerges a singular form:
a monkey face with no fixed expression — neither protective nor threatening.
The balance feels uncertain, almost unsettling.

The piece does not seek to seduce.
It bears witness.

What one perceives is less an aesthetic intention than a process:
the transformation of an intimate experience into a tangible presence.

This mask  reveal itself immediately.
