EMBERA WERA

For more than fourteen years, I have traveled regularly through the Darién jungle, collaborating with the women of the Embera community.

Over time, I have built a rare relationship of trust with them, founded on continuity, respect, and shared experiences. I have always undertaken these journeys alone, traveling to remote regions where I have been welcomed into families and invited to share their daily lives.

This experience is unique. To my knowledge, I am one of the very few outsiders to have maintained such a close and long-standing relationship with these women, and to have been invited to share so many moments of their lives. Beyond their craftsmanship, I have come to know their history, traditions, concerns, and aspirations.

Over the years, I have also witnessed their community changing rapidly. Some families are leaving their ancestral territories to move to the cities, and with these changes, a precious part of their cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, and collective memory risks being gradually lost.

It is for this reason that I created EMBERA WERA. With the support and enthusiasm of the Embera women, I now wish to open this experience to a small group of women travelers, allowing them to experience an authentic and meaningful encounter. The purpose is not tourism, but sharing, cultural transmission, and mutual discovery.

These journeys are currently reserved for women, simply because the Embera artisans are women. They feel more comfortable and at ease sharing their daily lives, experiences, and traditions within a female environment. Each journey is carefully designed with respect for their culture, their way of life, and the safety conditions necessary to ensure a responsible and enriching immersion.
